Work With Us

Does this sound like you?

You're exhausted

from thinking about what you should and shouldn't eat, what you really want to eat, what you'll eat later...

You're upset

with feeling guilty and shameful for overeating at night on the couch yet again

You're overwhelmed

by the endless stream of nutrition and diet recommendations you read online

You're worried

you'll never be happy, or even just comfortable, in your own body

We know what you’re going through. We’ve been there ourselves and have heard similar stories from over a thousand clients.

We're here to help you break free from the all-or-nothing trap of restriction to embrace peace and balance around food, movement, and your body once and for all.

With our help, you can feel

Calm and in control

around all of your favorite foods at home, a restaurant, an event, or anywhere else

Kind to yourself

no matter how you eat, move, or dress - while feeling more motivated than ever to make choices that actually nourish your mind and body

Trusting of your body

to tell you what, when, and how much to eat and exercise

Confident in your clothes,

AND able to be in photos without spiraling into body shame

Free to be fully you,

to do great work, take care of yourself, spend time with your loved ones, and rediscover the joy of eating

"Food has gone from the enemy to a joy and passion.

After a lifetime of calorie counting, restriction, and overall confusion about what I should be eating, Laura completely transformed my relationship with food. She helped me understand the reasons and emotions behind my overeating. She has not only helped me to better love myself and listen to my own body, but has also helped me to better love the people in my life. This has been one of the best investments I've ever made."

How our nutrition counseling works

75-Minute
Initial Session

We'll meet over Zoom and dig deep to understand the origins of your relationship with food and your body, your current habits, and concerns. We’ll also talk about your big picture goals, what success looks like for you, and identify specific areas of healing that we’ll work on together in future sessions. You will walk away with actionable steps to take to immediately start making change.

40-Minute Follow Ups

We’ll meet virtually for 40-minute follow-up sessions to discuss your progress, work through any barriers, and introduce new strategies to help you move towards your goals. These strategies may include tuning into hunger and fullness signals, mindful eating, managing cravings, learning to cope without food, and understanding nutrition guidelines.

Tools and Practices

After each session, you’ll get an email recap with clear and realistic steps you can take to make changes, as well as personalized tools, readings, worksheets, and reflection prompts to support our work between sessions.

Financial FAQs

Can I use my FSA or HSA for payment?

Yes! You can use your Flexible Spending Account or Health Saving Account for payment. We also accept credit card and Venmo.

Do you take insurance?

We are in-network with Cigna and Aetna! If you are in-network with either of these insurance companies, we encourage you to call them directly to understand your benefits for nutrition counseling. We'd also be happy to help with verification of benefits.

At this time, we are out-of-network with all other insurance companies.

Can I still get coverage from my insurance for sessions with Silver Street Nutrition if I don't have Cigna?

Yes! We can provide you with a Superbill (detailed receipt) for each session to submit to insurance for reimbursement. In many cases, out-of-network benefits provide partial or full coverage for the cost of our sessions.

How do I find out if my insurance company provides out-of-network benefits?

To determine whether your insurance company will reimburse for our sessions, you should contact them directly. Follow these simple steps:

  • Call your insurance by using the member services phone number that is (typically) on the back of your insurance card
  • When prompted, say “I want to speak with the benefits department”
  • Here are a few questions to ask:
”Does my insurance plan offer out-of-network benefits?”
“Is Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) a covered out-of-network benefit on my plan?”
NOTE: You can also specify the procedure codes (also called CPT codes) - 97802 for the initial session and 97803 for follow up sessions.
  • If you do have MNT benefits, consider asking:
“What amount of the fee will insurance cover?”
“What is my deductible, and how much of the deductible have I met?”
“Are there any restrictions, such as number of visits or specific diagnoses?”
NOTE: Some insurance companies only cover certain ”diagnosis codes.” We cannot provide you with a diagnosis code before the initial appointment. However, if you have been diagnosed with an eating disorder or a nutrition condition (like diabetes, high blood pressure, IBS…etc), you can ask the clinician who provided you with that diagnosis for the “ICD 10 code.” Then, you can ask your insurance about coverage for that specific code.

We are also happy to communicate with your insurance company, or provide any information to better guarantee coverage!

Do you offer a sliding scale payment policy?

We'd hate for the cost to get in the way of anyone's care and well-being, so we reserve a sliding scale policy for a few of available client slots.  The policy offers multiple discounted payment rates and we trust you to decide which tier is doable for you. No questions asked and absolutely no judgement. Send an email to laura@silverstreetnutrition.com for details.

“After years of not being able to trust my body and ridiculous diets that never actually worked, Laura has helped me realize there is no “right way” to eat and no perfect body. I learned so much in the months working with her and I am slowly but surely losing the need to obsess over how many calories I’m consuming/burning to create a better relationship with food overall. She asks the questions that help you reflect on your own constructs of what is “right and wrong” about eating and takes an empathetic approach in educating you. You can really tell it’s personalized to what you truly need.”

— Amanda on Long Island, NY

I can’t remember the last time that I over-ate. It has felt pretty easy to do as well, not like an intense battle in my head. I regularly make time to ask myself how full or not I am. Since Halloween, we have had a lot of candy in the house of course which would normally be a huge trigger for me. Instead I am able to have one or two Hershey kisses for example if I want something sweet. It feels so good to have a little treat but also to know that I am tasting it and enjoying it, instead of just waiting to put the next piece of candy in my mouth without thinking. Your words and guidance continue to help me. I cannot thank you enough. I’m extremely grateful to you.”

— Denise in White Plains, NY

I've been seeing Alex for the past 6 months and she has truly changed my life. Alex is the first Registered Dietitian, of the dozen that I have seen, that acknowledges food is comforting and never once made me feel judged. She honestly made me feel beautiful and taught me to love who I am. She understands that our emotions can impact how we eat and works with you to teach you that is normal. I love learning new things so Alex would share different articles or research with me that really explained things in a way I never would have thought of before. Knowing I had the support of Alex and her caring and compassionate demeanor has truly changed my life. I am forever grateful for Alex.”

Catherine in Freehold, NJ

“Laura is a phenomenal practitioner. She is compassionate, kind, and calm - the perfect trifecta. I am a twentysomething, and from the first time I met with Laura I instantly felt a connection and as if I were speaking with an old friend. Laura has worked with me to uncover the roots of my disordered eating patterns and to rebuild my relationship with food through intuitive eating. Through sharing her ample knowledge and a plethora of resources, Laura supplies clients with an arsenal of tools for their toolbox - which I can personally say I use every day! I will be forever grateful to have found Laura and cannot recommend her highly enough to anyone struggling with a complex relationship with food and self.

Chloe in New York, NY

“Alex was the most pleasant to have taken this journey on with. I came with an open mind, since you don't hear about intuitive eating. Now, I'm practicing the exercises she went over with me and incorporated them into my daily routine. I have a better understanding with myself and my food! I always said I was a foodie and now when I say it, it feels good to know there isn't a guilt trip. The book as well is a good guide however having someone to talk about where struggling lies was liberating. I was not judged and I felt heard overall. Thank you so much Alex!”
